CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, located near Geneva, is the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.
It has strong links with Belgium, a founding Member State since 1954. Here is a short description of the official links between Belgium and CERN.

CERN Council

The Council is the supreme decision-making body of the Organization and is composed of two delegates from each CERN's Member State. It defines the Organization’s policy about the scientific, technical and administrative matters.

Belgium is represented by two Delegates who have representative functions in other CERN bodies (see below).

CERN Management

The Director-General, appointed by the Council, manages the CERN Laboratory. The Director-General is assisted by a directorate and runs the Laboratory through a structure of departments.

The Management Liaison is a member of the CERN senior staff, who helps to maintain open dialogue between the CERN management and the Member States Council delegates and other relevant officials in that country. They may also interact with existing Informal Networks of staff and users from their country.

CERN management has appointed one Management Liaison for Belgium.

Benoît Delille Management liaison for Belgium Head of the Health & Safety and Environmental Protection Unit E-mail: benoit.delille@cern.ch Website: http://hse.cern Benoît is a trained mechanical engineer (Faculté Polytechnique de Mons, Belgium, 1996) who worked in the private industry for six years before becoming a member of CERN in 2002. He worked in the Structural Safety area, then as advisor for Human Ressources and later in the Accelerators and Technology sector where he brought his experience in safety engineering and project management before being nominated as Head of the HSE unit in 2021.
