Year 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of Georges Lemaître's death.
Illustrious scientist and professor of UCL, father of the "Big Bang" theory explaining the origin and evolution of the Universe, his audacious ideas were presented among leading scientific contributions. They were confirmed by the most recent advances in cosmology and observational astrophysics.
In memory of his work and to the man he was, many events were organised at UCL (Université Catholique de Louvain) under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King throughout this academic year. Conferences, projections, exhibitions, plays, the activities were targeted at general public, students and future students, in partnership with the Mundaneum, which welcomed the one whose intuition guided generations of scientists.
Between September 2016 and March 2017, the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve offered a series of lectures and exhibitions on Georges Lemaître.
